How to use ‘Why? What’s Stopping You?’
Start with the big oval: write down your goal.
Work up from the middle. Ask “why do you want to solve this challenge?” Listen closely. Rephrase the answer as a challenge question. Write the answer in an oval above.
Complete the row of ovals by asking, “Why else do you want to solve this challenge?” Repeat for each level of ovals until you get a broad question such as, “How to have a richer fuller life?” At this point, you can stop.
Back at the center oval, work down from the middle: Ask, “what’s stopping you from solving this challenge?” Listen closely. Rephrase the answer as a challenge question. Write these in the middle-sized ovals in the first level below.
Complete this level by asking, “What else is stopping you from accomplishing this challenge?” Repeat for each level below, asking “what else is stopping me from accomplishing this challenge?” until you get to things that are clearly tasks to do.
